    The first settlers in the area were mostly United Empire Loyalists who had fled the United States during the American Revolution. These settlers were granted land in Upper Canada by the British Crown in exchange for their loyalty to the crown. The Town of Penville was officially incorporated in 1834 and became part of the newly-former Simcoe County in 1843.

    In 1850, Penville was designated as a police village, which gave it a higher level of self-government than other municipalities at that time. However, this designation was short-lived and Penville lost its status as a police village just three years later.

    The 20th century saw a period of growth for Penville as it became a thriving farming community. The town also became home to several different manufacturing businesses, which provided employment for many residents. Today, Penville is a quiet and peaceful community that is proud of its history and heritage.
