Mansfield’s roots are deeply agricultural, with the first settlers like Jack Harper arriving around 1837. The village’s name itself is a nod to its early spiritual and social heart: it is believed to be derived from the “Manse in the field,” referring to the residence of the local Presbyterian minister, Archibald Colquhoun, who served the community in the 1850s.
